Community Empowerment

Dimuthu Foundation believe that children’s development is tied inextricably to that of their families and communities.

Therefore, Dimuthu works with community institution at grass root level for alleviation of poverty irrespective of race, religion, caste and any other distinctions. We also initiate actions for the realization of social justice and holistic human development. Dimuthu foundation has 20 years of experience in promoting savings and credit habit in the communities. Recognizing the challenges ahead, Dimuthu Foundation has emphasized socio economic protection as a need of the community development. Developing effective socio-economic protection policies and programmes to address poverty and vulnerability is aimed.

Our current focus on:

  • Strengthening the community institutions
  • Implementing programmes in right based approach
  • Mitigating the impact of poverty on the most vulnerable families with more children and those with special needs,
  • Establishing and strengthening the village level secondary leadership to initiate community lead actions in order to address the needs of the community.
  • Community based development, rural reconstruction by strengthening self-reliance initiatives in harnessing the beneficiaries as resources for growth through societies formed among themselves.

People also encouraged to carry out income generating ventures. As per their level of skill and experience they are brought under the category of SIYB or IYB on the following.

  • Poultry farming
  • Small business (sewing, carpentry, producing and selling meals and eatable items, grocery shops, plant nurseries, etc.)
  • Fishing related production and selling
  • Cattle rearing (goats, rabbits, birds etc)
  • Making coconut products (ekel, coconut husk, coconut shell etc.)
  • Family farming, home gardening, organic farming and making compost fertilizer
