Disaster Response

Northwestern part of Sri Lanka face the effects of climate change, especially the seasonal flooding, long drought periods and flash floods after monsoon rains, which destroy the peoples livelihood activities which keep them within the poverty cycle.

In recent years, the frequency of these natural disasters has increased.

Hence, there is a great need to organize and strengthen these poor communities and build disaster resilience, train them on drought and flood resistant livelihoods, so that as CBOs they will be better organized to face these situations and also gain their rights such as land, water, facilities to markets their produce, education for their children, etc.

In this community we see more and more social and economic issues arising due to the pandemic and economic crisis situation. However, the micro projects that were implemented by Dimuthu Foundation have answered some of the issues and should be mentioned with great respect.

During the pandemic situation people were made aware of the precautionary measure for Covid 19. They were given personal protection equipment (PPE) such as masks, sanitizers and Dettol. In addition, due to their poverty situation dry rations worth of Rs 5,000 were also provided to the vulnerable families.
