Organic and nutrition Programme

Health and sanitation training programmes conducted with the support of Public Health Inspectors. This particular activity promoted good health habits by keeping their toilets and the living environment clean.

Parents and children were educated on nutritious food. Awareness on ill effects of using tobacco & Alcoholism and other addictive substances also explained to the people. Primary sanitary facilities such as common toilets and individual toilets were built for the villagers where it is necessary. Maintaining hygienic habits were emphasized.

Dimuthu foundation also expanded its activities in the promotion of the home gardens, aquaculture and animal husbandry using traditional farming systems to sustain the farming sector in Sri Lanka. It is well known fact that Sri Lanka was a self-sufficient island in the past with its own agricultural methods and healthy food habits. However, the environment friendly indigenous agricultural practices were gradually removed from the societies to a considerable extent replacing with modern technology which is of chemical background.

People were also given information about protein-contained food, nutritional leaves planting and making compost fertilizers. Presently, people are interestingly participated in the organic farming. Series of training programmes encouraged them to be involved in self-employment initiatives, new methods of making organic fertilizer using household wastages, and start savings for their economic development. Due to their interest in these livelihood activities now they are in a mentality to do something in addition to their daily work to generate extra income.
